Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma
Resource for Patient, Family, and Clinician

This journal is written for the non-Hodgkin lymphoma patient, family members, designated care givers, and friends of the NHL patient. Here we provide a compelling amalgamation of inspirational stories. Here you will also find a news component which should be of some benefit to the non-Hodgkin lymphoma patient, and we provide a chat room and social network which is about NHL and related topics. Our chat room and social network allows for unlimited users and all we ask is that the conversations are kept within the realm of non-Hodgkin lymphoma and related topics.
Here you will find also my own perspective on this cancer, and cancer in general, with the hope that by knowing my story, some benefit may be realized by those who suffer from NHL.
In an effort to provide more information about non-Hodgkin lymphoma, I have also included a book store, which provides books, publications, and articles about non-Hodgkin lymphoma and cancer survival.
My wife was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma ( indolent, follicular ) 13 years ago. Her disease is starting to pick up pace and is progressing more rapidly. I developed an understanding of how people around the world were able to conquer their cancer, and have come to the conclusion that indeed there is hope for my wife. I wanted to not only pass this information onto my wife, but also I wanted to make this information public so that it may be beneficial to other non-Hodgkin lymphoma patients by providing hope to their situation.
I have come to the realization that many people around the world have beat many types of cancer, even when told by their doctor they have very little chance of surviving. I have done some research into the capability of the human mind in terms of healing. One of the many aspects of the human mind, that separates us from animals, is that many diseases can be suppressed and in some cases completely eradicated with a positive attitude. In fighting a disease, having the proper attitude can mean the difference between living and dying. The mind does have an affect on the body, and having a positive outlook seems to be one of those major factors when it comes to eradicating a disease. There is of course a biological bases to this, but scientist in this field really do not have an understanding of the underlying mechanism.
What is known is that the human mind does have an effect on the outcome of a disease, and in the case of a positive attitude, the probability is greater for a favorable outcome. In most cases, this does not mean that attitude alone can result in conquering the disease, but rather a positive attitude is an integral component along with proper medical care for eradication of the disease.
A major contribution toward a positive attitude is the assimilation of how other patients were able to conquer their non-Hodgkin lymphoma. There is plenty of information online about non-Hodgkin lymphoma from a biological or medical perspective, but very little information in terms of inspirational stories. Hence the need for this journal.
Along with positive attitude and proper medical care, there is still one more very important component. This very important component is within the area of religion. What I found in my research is that people who statistically did better in terms of their disease, had a belief that God placed them on this earth for a purpose. These people tend to believe that we all have been placed on this earth for a purpose, and by being close to God, then and only then will you realize your purpose. People with this belief system tended to believe that their disease is only temporary and that disease is one of the ways God works in shaping us into the person he wants us to be. The story of Lance Armstrong is a clear example of how God works in shaping and molding us to fulfill his purpose.
The Lance Armstrong story is one of inspiration for not only non-Hodgkin lymphoma patients, but all cancer patients. In 1996 Armstrong discovered that he had testicular cancer, which had spread to his brain and lungs. The American cyclist, was given a 40 percent chance of surviving his cancer. After beating his cancer he won the prestigious Tour de France an unprecedented seven straight times, from 1999-2005. The Tour de France is the most prestigious cycling race in the world, and one of the most grueling events in all of sports. For more information on the Lance Armstrong story go to Lance Armstrong or go to CNN.com - Lance Armstrong. The Lance Armstrong story is truly amazing.
Lance Armstrong has said that if he did not have cancer, he would have not been able to achieve what he accomplished. Remember that in many cases, God gives us disease in order to shape us into the person he wants us to be. God wanted Lance Armstrong to be an inspiration and a beacon of hope for all cancer patients, and that is exactly what Lance Armstrong has become.
The Lance Armstrong story is one most of us know about because he has become a public figure due to media coverage. But believe me, there are similar stories developing every day that are not played out under the watchful eye of the media. So for the non-Hodgkins lymphoma patient, these stories of inspiration can be a catalyst for hope. Miracles do happen and you can be one of them, and if you do survive, the experience will most likely change you for the better, as it did with Lance Armstrong.
The following is a list of inspirational stories for the non-Hodgkin lymphoma patient. Following this list of stories, you will find the most current News From The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This news is updated daily.
